A Must for Every Pastor!
This is a wonderful treasure! I've only just started digging into it, but already I'm impressed. The articles and resources in vol. 2 are well written and helpful, especially as they encourage the reader to think more deeply about the richness of Lutheran worship and practice. The articles in both volumes about the hymns and their authors and composers are especially invaluable! Many of the scant details regarding the hymns were previously only available through scatterings of tidbits here and there, but now finally everything is in one central location! Already I've utilized this resource in my parish as I write up hymn summaries for the bulletin on our hymn of the month we're learning and the hymn of the day for each Sunday. This Lent I'm planning on centering my sermons around a different hymn at each midweek service, and as I prepare those services the companion has already proved quite useful. As a pastor who is working hard to inculcate a love of our beautiful Lutheran chorales (and the Gospel they so powerfully convey) among my people, the companion will most definitely help me in my labors. This is one of those resources every pastor should have in their library.
