The third and final book in the Anthems of Zion series!

It’s summer break in Bradbury—and that means cookouts, cornfields, and county fairs! But at Zion Lutheran Church, the changes and chances of life don’t take a vacation. Pastor Fletcher must learn to share the parsonage bathroom. Mrs. Scheinberg must face the fact that not every problem can be solved by pie. And when a beloved member makes a life-altering announcement, the entire congregation must trust more than their crops to the Lord of the harvest.

Life is anything but idyllic in small-town Bradbury, but grace and mercy and potlucks abound. Join Emily, Robbie, Candice, and the rest of the dear people of Zion as they follow God’s call into the scariest mission field of all: the very county where God has placed them.

Heart-warming and for anyone

I actually contemplated a one-word review: perfect. Katie has grown as a writer and I was pleased with her consistent, charming, and uplifting writing throughout. I was mildly surprised to miss some of the earliest years of Pastor/Emily's marriage, but, frankly, those do zoom by, especially with little ones. It let her throw a few surprises our way while lending satisfying growth to several main characters. I loved how she handled Scheinberg, Blaine, Mary, and pretty much everyone. I loved how little bits were credited-rightfully-as theology. I love how care was given about all sorts of things. Again, perfect! My favorite of the three in the series. There was some skin-shock, but the previous books were very modest as well. It shouldn't really surprise us that a pastor's wife might wonder how to shield the eyes of her young son from a scantily clad figure. Generally, though, I was pleased to see how true to life the book and characters were. The Harvest Raise is a book I can easily recommend to just about anyone, whether I wanted to spot light a Lutheran novelist or just offer a heart-warming, small-town read.

Triple Crown Winner

Katie Schuermann has penned another winner! The final installment from this series has been released for several months. Schuermann launches right into a major plot-point with the first chapter of the book, and she wastes no time in setting the stage for the events that will rapidly unfold. The characters from previous books are back again, and their curtain calls are fabulous. I did not think that Schuermann could improve upon Book 2 in the series. She developed her characters beautifully and delved even deeper into their lives. However, this book surpasses her previous novel. Pastor Fletcher, Emily Duke, Mrs. Scheinberg, and the rest of the cast experience real life crises and tragedies and must learn how to deal with them in real time. This book is no fairy tale; it’s real life. That’s one reason I like this book. I get to know the characters personally. They have flaws. They make rash judgments. They want to see the best when they know things are not rosy. They lose their tempers. Sounds a lot like me. I identified quite closely with one of the main characters: Emily. I believe Schuermann knows Emily well because she KNOWS the life of Emily Duke and so many others, in real life, who are like her. The things that happen to this gal are real, and I know that the author did her homework on this character. (Forgive the vagueness about Emily, but I’d rather not spoil the book for you.) The book took twists and turns that I did not anticipate. I laughed till my sides hurt, and then I wept for the sorrows shared. The highs and lows were spot-on, and the story kept me wanting to know more. Another aspect of the book that has continued throughout the trilogy is the use of music. The author has one again penned poems and set them to song. The blend brings to life a beautiful duet that actually fits with the story line. The words are not just “thrown in” but actually incorporated appropriately. An added bonus: Schuermann has provided the music for these pieces FREE for you! Finally, The Harvest Raise is theologically sound. Schuermann addresses the flaws within her characters, and those flaws create conflict. The ugliness of sin rears its head multiple times in the book, and problems must be addressed. Through the Bible’s use of Law and Gospel, the characters must work and live together as members of their church. It’s not always pretty, but that’s the same way with real life. I’m thrilled that I can share this book with my teenager and know that she will not be led astray by flowery language that denies sin and its consequences. Rather, I can give this book to my teen and know that she will see the value of God’s Word and its importance in the lives of people. Katie Schuermann has won the Triple Crown in this novel. Her writing captured my attention personally, musically, and spiritually. I hope more budding writers will read the Anthems of Zion series and strive to put quality quality writing in the hands of the reader.

Wonderful book

Katie has outdone herself with this final book in the Anthems of Zion trilogy. I laughed. I cried. I covered my eyes so I wouldn’t see, and then realized I was reading a book! She did a magnificent job bringing the characters to life. I love how Katie points out the faults and the loving kindness in these neighbors of Bradbury. Tragedy strikes their town as it does many towns, and the community shows love and support for each other even through their faults. She shows us the difficult side of living in a community of Christians, reminding us of our own sins, yet also reminding us of the forgiveness Christ has given to us in our baptism. She encourages us to care for our own neighbors. Sit down with a cup of tea and a slice of twinkie cake, and enjoy the last book about Bradbury.

The last installment of a memorable and impactful series.

The Anthems of Zion series has been one of the best book series I have ever read. From the first page of House of Living Stones I immediately found myself drawn in as a fellow citizen of Bradbury. I see a little bit of myself in each of the characters and have invested in their joys and sorrows. (I have never been thrown into a laughing fit while reading a book until now!) The Harvest Raise is the perfect ending of a perfect series that clearly exemplifies God's perfect love and saving grace for each one of us. Katie, thank you for such a gift.

Tell Me More...

I have enjoyed watching the relationships and interactions of Bradbury. I am sad that this is the end of the trilogy as I'd like to spend more time with these people. I feel at home as I have cried, laughed, and eaten alongside them. Thank you for taking the everyday of parish life and putting it on paper showing us we are not alone and we are each forgiven.

A perfect farewell to my friends in Bradbury

The third and final book in this amazing trilogy will not disappoint! Reading it was like sitting down to coffee with an old friend and picking right back up where you left off as though no time has passed. The depth of the characters makes them come alive and you celebrate and mourn deeply right along with them. Katie, once again, delivers an incredible story about how we are to be about our Father's business in real and practical ways! And it's all wrapped up in a delightful way, you will laugh and cry- I know I did!!

Absolute entertainment.

The final book in a series often ends in disappointment for the reader. The Harvest Raise, however, does not disappoint! It is brillaintly written and wraps up the series in a wonderful tale. Laughter, love, and community is blended poignantly. The reader is left completely satisfied and in the mood to enjoy a nice cup of tea and a large piece of pie.

Don't want it to end

This last book in the Anthems of Zion Series just made me love the characters even more than I started to with the first two books. It's been a long time since I've read a series so nicely written where I wish with all my heart the characters were real. Of course, in many ways, you will think the author knows the same people you do. That's how beautifully they relate. Also it was the very first time I have read contemporary fiction with church settings and liturgy just like mine. It makes me feel at home. I highly recommend the entire series, get them now!

I have loved the other two books in the Anthems of Zion series, and this third book is no exception! I laughed, I cried and I recognized so many of the characters as their quirks and traits reminded me of my own church family (and myself). These books are a true gems! Add them to your shopping cart today!

The third and final book in the wonderful Anthems of Zion series helps us to stop and ponder what is really means to "love your neighbor". Filled with the characters we know and love, The Harvest Raise is a satisfying goodbye to the town of Bradbury and all who live there.
