Inspiring
Rosa Young had a heart for helping her people get educated and learn of God’s grace, love and salvation. She went to great personal effort to build a school and teach these lessons. The biggest lessons of all were that she always prayed to the Lord for help she needed and she never ever ever gave up. In the early 1900s, in the Deep South, for a very young, black woman to accomplish these goals demonstrates her complete trust in the Lord and allows Him to shine through her story.

A true education reformer!
While Rosa Parks gets plenty of well deserved attention for refusing to move her seat on a bus, Rosa Young WALKED everywhere she could to get the gospel and education to the poorest of the poor. This was an amazing woman who understood that reaching her people with a pure Gospel and education would be what sets the poor person truly free. Rosa Young was ostracized by her own neighbors and family for her work in getting the Gospel and education to poverty stricken areas, and was instrumental in getting formal education to those same people. She walked for miles each day to do this work. What an inspiration!

This woman knew hardship!
In our day when 'poor people' have cellphones and obesity, it's easy to forget what real poverty was like back when. Rosa experienced it firsthand, and sought to alleviate the moral, intellectual and spiritual poverty around her through education and application of the Gospel. Our Lord truly used her in a remarkable way.

A must read - add to confirmands' assignment
Inspirational! Written in her own old fashioned style and words, this book is a view from the perspective of a humble servant of the Lord which gives us an accurate account of life as a "Negro" in the days after slavery but before desegregation, and how, with perserverence and the Lord's support, she confronted superstitions and ignorance to found schools and missions to make a better life for her people both intellectually and spiritually. Why do we both, whites and other races, hesitate to share our Good News with the world?!
