Overview
Great spiritual blessings come to Christians who partake of the Lord's Supper on the Lord's Day. They receive a "visible Word" which gives to them the forgiveness of sins, life and salvation. Their faith is strengthened. Their inner man is renewed for a life of good works. They are formed in the image of Christ.

In the Apostolic church, communion was celebrated every Sunday. During the period of the Reformation, the Lutheran churches practiced weekly communion. The influence of Protestantism in the United States has suppressed this practice.

This book will help restore this worthy and biblical tradition in our congregations. Each chapter includes discussion questions to help readers reflect and apply the material to their personal and corporate worship.

An easy-to-read comprehensive writing of the history and importance of Communion

A lot of this information is absolutely essential for pastors in particular to understand, and while many solid Lutheran pastors I have encountered understand the important and history of communion to a degree, this book excels in showing and organizing the history and importance of the Lord’s Supper. A lot of the history of the Eucharist and the early Christian Church is fleshed out; not just the beliefs about the importance and content of the Eucharist, but also the practices and some of the external forces the Christians had to contend with in their faithful worship. It lays the foundation for us to realize how fortunate we are to have the ability to have weekly and regular Eucharistic feasts, and since we don’t have some of the struggles that earlier churches had with celebration, it leads the reader to perhaps wonder why the Eucharist isn’t celebrated weekly (or at every service) at every church. In addition to explaining the history and essence of the Lord’s Supper, the author also details the place and understanding of the Eucharist in the present day, and ultimately some challenges regarding it which may come up in the future. This is ultimately comprehensive, dealing with the history of the past, the practice of the present, and the preparation for the future, and anyone who wants to understand the full scope, practice, and importance of the Eucharist would greatly benefit from the information contained within. In the same way, pastors, Bible study leaders, or individuals who wish to study, lead a study, or reference information about the Eucharist would be well off to have a copy of this at-hand. There are lessons and study questions contained within at the end of each chapter, so this book is just as good of a resource to teach as it is to read and reference.
