Overview
There are many studies of the Book of Ruth available, so why one more? The book of Ruth offers more to readers than a familiar verse that is said during Christian marriage ceremonies. In Ruth, God tells us so much more than how to be a better woman or about the marriage relationship. Embedded in the historical narrative of this short Old Testament book are connections to God’s fulfilled promise of a Messiah and how God loves us and cares for us in Christ. The story is a wonderful picture of how God watches carefully over every little detail so His grace may come to fruition and fully abound. This history is just one link in a long chain of carefully orchestrated individual lives brought together for God to carry out His gracious plan for the redemption of the earth and all mankind.
The Holy Spirit is constantly remaking us, transforming us into Christ’s image and workmanship. Just as Ruth is about commitment to faith and to family, it is about God’s commitment to His promises even when we can’t see those promises being fulfilled. As you work through the chapters of this in-depth Bible study, you will come to see God’s holiness and wholeness revealed through the book of Ruth.

"It is about you, after all"
Bringing the OT, Hebrew language, into this study of Ruth brought a greater understanding of what is happening in this book. Ruth, The love story is about God's love for us and how He uses the everyday things in our life to bless us and keep us. This book carries us into deeper understand of Jesus, our kinsman-redeemer, our rest and our daily food.

Clear, solid, and engaging
As a previous theology student and avid reader of Bible studies and doctrinal books, it takes a lot to impress me. I've read it all and discussed it all. But Elizabeth Ahlman has managed to bring a depth to the Book of Ruth that I previously didn't notice. Her writing style is informed and authoritative, yet simple and clear. She continually points to Christ and discusses how Scripture interprets Scripture. The Book of Ruth is truly more than a love story of Ruth and Naomi. It's a love story between God and His people.

What is a "type of Christ"?
The authors knowledge of Scripture and Christo-centric nature of the Old Testament are refreshing. But she tends to stretch her interpretation a bit too far. Her definition of "type of Christ" may lead any and almost every person in the Old Testament to be a "type of Christ." We prefer to let the Bible interpret a type of Christ when it tells us explicitly. Ruth and Boaz are never said to be types of Christ by the New Testament. There are certainly parallels in character that are shared with Christ (except Christ is perfect where the human is not), just as almost any character in the Bible. Jonah is a more clear type of Christ because Jesus himself declares that in Luke 11 and Matthew 12. Thank you Elizabeth for your hard work.
