About The Series
The You Can Do It Series encourages and equips believers to live out life as a disciple of Jesus Christ, being formed and shaped by God’s Word. Written in a clear and encouraging style, each of these topical books gives Christians achievable goals for strengthening their faith and relationships. Each book features a consistent presentation of a topic in five parts with each part consisting of a presentation, summary, discussion questions, and several action steps.

About This Volume
Our salvation is not dependent on how we feel, but certainly our relationships with one another very often are. Fostering and nurturing good relationships, removing stumbling blocks of perception and communication, and sweating the details, both inside and to the outside of the congregation, are key to having a caring congregation.

This volume will equip you to:

  • Establish a pattern of caring that flows out of the Means of Grace
  • Value taking care of the details as a means of showing care
  • Find ideas and ways to care for the community around the church
  • Care for the called, elected, and volunteer workers in the congregation
  • Nurture and support the members of the congregation

Refreshing and Encouraging

Far from a shallow checklist, this short book of 96-pages is an encouraging consideration of Lutheran congregational hospitality. The text goes through both what it means to be caring and cared for in a good Word-and-Sacrament-centered way. I found the book to be refreshing and encouraging. No false or unrealistic expectations added. Woo hoo! There’s common sense, common practices, and a general overview of Christian care. Well-suited to group reading, chapters end with key points, questions, and action items, making this is a great resource for congregation-wide study. This book would be especially ideal for groups like call committees and congregations evaluating themselves. It is written with Lutherans in mind, but I think it could be helpful for a great many faithful congregations. I consider it to be well-grounded in Scripture and general hospitality considerations. Still, it is particularly satisfying to this Lutheran, with its solid proclamation of Gospel and appreciation of the means of grace and pastors. 🙂 The five chapters: Understand Why You Care Show Uncommon Common Sense Care for the Community Care for Church Workers and Their Families Care for the Congregation
