Paul Deterding

The Reverend Dr. Paul E. Deterding is pastor of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and School in Carson City, Nevada, a position he has held since March of 2000.  He attended St. Paul’s College High (1971) and St. Paul’s College (A.A., 1973), both in Concordia, Missouri, and Concordia Senior College (B.A., 1975) in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  He received his seminary education at Concordia Seminary (M. Div., 1978) in St. Louis, Missouri.  He carried on graduate studies, also at Concordia Seminary (S.T.M., 1979; Th.D., 1981), under the distinguished New Testament scholar Martin Scharlemann. Dr. Deterding served as pastor of Our Savior Lutheran Church of Satellite Beach, Florida (now Risen Savior Lutheran Church of Palm Bay, Florida), from 1981 to 1994 and as pastor of Christ Lutheran Church, Jackson, Mississippi, from 1994 to 2000.  He has also served as a guest lecturer at both Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri. His publications include several articles in Concordia Journal, the monograph Echoes of Pauline Concepts in the Speech at Antioch (St. Louis: Concordia Student Journal, 1980), and the popular level studies Daniel: Encouragement for Faith (St. Louis: Concordia Publishing House, 1996) and Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi: Return to the Lord (St. Louis: Concordia Publishing House, 2005).  He served as a consultant, an author, and an associate editor for The Lutheran Study Bible (Concordia Publishing House, forthcoming). He and his wife, Donna (nee Janosov), are the parents of three sons: Stephen, Andrew, and Jason.
