Joni Walker

Joni Walker began to draw as soon as she could hold a pencil. A lifelong resident of rural Indiana, she immersed herself in the beauty of the outdoors, spending countless hours sketching, exploring nature and letting her imagination roam free. While Joni is a graduate of Herron School of Art + Design, she is self taught in watercolor. She became especially interested in book illustration in college and began writing for children several years later. Her first books for Concordia Publishing House were published in 2003. Joni has worked as a freelance artist for many years, creating logos, custom drawings, pet portraits, murals and nature paintings. She is a member of the Indiana Wildlife Artists and was selected as an Indiana Artisan in 2023. When Joni is not writing and illustrating, she works as a professional photographer, enjoys working in her gardens and spending time with family, especially her two grandsons. Her dog Badger and cats Widman and Wynette are always close by. Other books include Jesus Knows Me and Jesus Is With Me. Joni has been a member of St. John Lutheran church her entire life.
