Jeffrey Blersch has set familiar shape-note hymn tunes in delightful settings for organ. A shape-note is a style of notation in which the notes are written with different shapes to teach music literacy, and the five tunes in this collection were first published in shape-note hymnals. The tunes are FOUNDATION, HOLY MANNA, JEFFERSON, NEW BRITAIN, and THE SAINTS’ DELIGHT. Styles range from mysterious and haunting to rousing jig and lilting mixed meter.
