André Campra (1660–1744) was the leading figure in French sacred music as well as theatrical music in the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries.  These six dances have been selected from various scenes in Les fêtes vénitiennes and do not necessarily follow suit in the performance of this opéra-ballet.  Composed in five parts for oboes, bassoons, strings plus basso continuo, these dances have proven to be quite conducive to performance on modern instruments—in this case the magnificent combination of brass, organ and timpani. Transcribed and edited for organ, brass quintet, and optional timpani by Scott Sorenson.
