This piece, based on Handel's second setting of his Chandos Anthem on Psalm 96, contains the final two choruses of that work: movement 6 “Let the whole earth stand in awe” and movement 7 “Let the heavens rejoice.”

This piece, based on George Frideric Handel’s Chandos Anthem No. 4 “O sing unto the Lord a new song” (HWV 249b), contains the final two choruses of that work: movement 6 “Let the whole earth stand in awe” and movement 7 “Let the heavens rejoice.” It has been arranged by Robert S. Hines for three voices (SAB) instead of the original five- and four-part chorus, necessitating some slight shifting of the voice parts. The keyboard accompaniment was prepared by Gerhard Krapf. The original is one step higher; dynamic indications are those of Handel. Adapted from Psalm 96:9, 11, the text is appointed for Christmas Midnight but is useful throughout the year.
