The hymn, “Built on the Rock the Church Doth Stand,” set for congregation, two trumpets, and organ, is perfect for festival services focused on church or school dedications. This hymn is the hymn of the day for Proper 16, but its robust setting works well for a Reformation or Sts. Peter and Paul, Apostles festival Sundays. The trumpet parts are not wholly necessary for the setting to be done well but add a poignancy to this hymn concertato that is edifying for congregation and performers.
