Commissioned in 1993, this translation of The Book of Concord brings a new generation of scholarship and sensitivities to bear on the foundational texts of Lutheran identity.
Commissioned in 1993, this translation of The Book of Concord brings a new generation of scholarship to the foundational texts of Lutheran identity. This marks the fifth translation since 1851, succeeding the 1959 edition edited by Theodore Tappert and Muhlenburg Press.
Reviewing the 1959 text showcased a need for a new edition brimming with new scholarship and a new translation that better reflects changes in the English language. Kolb and Wengert's team of leading Reformation historians was consulted, along with 100 additional scholars and teachers and two other teams of scholars, to review this translation. After this careful review and detailed edits, Augsburg Press now presents this latest edition of the Book of Concord.
This New Translation Includes:
Expanded introductions and annotations for richer historical context
