Behold Your Promised Lord
This anthem for SATB, organ, and optional violin or oboe (or other C instrument) uses a new text by Lisa M. Clark that is well suited for Holy Thursday and for any time the Lord’s Supper is celebrated. The minor-key tune and setting by Benjamin M. Culli are simple and straightforward, making this lovely piece easy to learn.
Behold your promised Lord,
Who takes the bread and wine
And with His Word outpoured
Creates a meal divine.
Oh, take and eat this cov’nant new:
His mercy true and love complete.
Behold your gracious Lord
Who comes to be your guest
Until He has restored
And given perfect rest.
Oh, sit and hear His words of peace;
All fears will cease in promise clear.
Behold your paschal Lord,
The holy sacrifice.
In flesh, the Lamb adored
Has come to pay your price.
Oh, wait and pray throughout the night
As He makes right and leads the way.
Behold your mighty Lord,
The God of earth and sky,
Whom angels in accord
Sing out with awestruck cry.
Oh, come and praise in loud refrains
The One who reigns for countless days.
