The sun stood still, and the moon stopped, until the nation took vengeance on their enemies.
Joshua 10:13
On July 4, 1776, the thirteen colonies in America declared their freedom from Great Brit-ain in the Declaration of Independence. Actual independence came when the Treaty of Paris was signed on September 3, 1783.
Time and battles often build nations. When the Israelites defended the Gibeonites, Joshua feared that he would run out of time. Amid the battle, Joshua called out in faith: “Sun, stand still at Gibeon, and moon, in the Valley of Aijalon” (Joshua 10:12). Through Israel, the Lord brought victory to Gibeon in the lengthened day.
Jesus declared, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matthew 4:17). He has gained for us the victory over sin, death, and the power of the devil. But the consummation of the King’s triumph is delayed. Until the Church springs forth in every land and the whole fullness of the na-tions enters, the descending of the Son is deferred. The day of grace is lengthened that the Sun of Righteousness might pour the light of truth into the hearts of believers. Let us do battle with the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God, while it is still day, before the night comes when no man can be rescued.
Almighty God, extend Your holy kingdom in this lengthened day of grace. Amen.
